Bio:
Skateboard phenom, Ryan Sheckler, stepped onto an old board belonging to his father when just eighteen months of age. He took the board with him everywhere he went for the next three years. In 1995 he came across his first quarter pipe at a buddy’s house in his native San Clemente. The rest they say is history.
Within a few years, Sheckler joined the CASL (California Amateur Skateboarding League) and proceeded to win one state championship after another.
In 2003, at the encouragement of his sponsors, Sheckler turned pro at thirteen years of age. He immediately put an end to any uncertainty of his ability with first place finishes at the Gravity Games, the Vans Triple Crown, Slam City Jam and the X Games. In fact, his success made him the youngest participant ever to earn a gold medal at the X Games (13 years of age).
Since turning pro Ryan has dominated the contest circuit, bringing home just about every title there is out there. In 2005, he successfully defended the title as National Street Champion and added World Street Champion to his long list of accomplishments. That same year, Ryan not only took the overall title in skateboard park at the Dew Action Sports Tour but he also earned the title "Athlete of the Year" by accumulating the most points of any athlete in all disciplines on the tour. In 2006 and 2007 Ryan held 1st place overall score in the AST Dew Tour and in 2008 Ryan earned gold once again in the X Games. Battling with an injured elbow Ryan came out of 2008 Dew Tour holding two 1st place wins.
In 2007 MTV brought Ryan’s life to the television screen with his reality show, "The Life of Ryan". It was such a sensation that MTV picked it up for two additional seasons; all three seasons are on sale now. Ryan took some time out of his busy schedule and along with some of his pro skater friends co-stared in Rob Dyrdek’s film Street Dreams out in theaters now. Ryan also finished filming the movie Tooth Fairy where he will play a hockey star, due in theaters January 2010.
At just 19 years old, Ryan has become a household name. Ryan along with his younger brothers Shane and Kane, started the philanthropic organization "The Sheckler Foundation," which provides assistance and raises funds for those in need. The Foundation was founded as an avenue for Ryan, his family and friends to give back to the community, something Ryan is deeply passionate about. In July 2008, Ryan hosted the "First Annual Ryan Sheckler X Games Celebrity Skins Classic" which helped to raise money and support for several important organizations including Children’s Cancer Research and medical coverage for injured action sports athletes. Viewed as a major success, Ryan is hosting this event again in July 2009.
Ryan is an uncanny entrepreneur. In addition to endorsement deals with companies such as Red Bull, Etnies, Independent, Oakley, and Plan B in 2009 Ryan developed his own clothing line called RS by Sheckler. Recently, Ryan was nominated for Best Male Action Sports Athlete at the 2009 ESPY Awards and for Best TV Male Reality/Variety Star and Best Action Sports Male at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards.
During the minutes and hours in between skate sessions, Ryan spends time enjoying his other passions. He is an avid fan of motocross, as well as, anything car related; he has become quite the collector. He claims to have an addiction to music, especially rap, heavy metal and classic rock.
