Bio
As one of the most valuable players in the WNBA Diana Taurasi has certainly climbed her way to the top in a short time. Taurasi began making noise in high school when playing for her Don Lugo High School basketball team in Chino, CA. Diana scored an unbelievable 3,027 points throughout her high school career. Diana then moved on to the University of Connecticut where she majored in Sociology and led her basketball team to win three consecutive NCAA championship and was named National Player of the Year in 2003 & 2004.
Diana became the first overall play pick in the 2004 WNBA Draft. Taurasi was named 2004 WNBA Rookie of the Year and is a three-time All-Star Award winner. Taurasi was the youngest player on Team USA in 2004 where the team won Gold at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. She was the first overall draft pick in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Phoenix Mercury, and was named first team ALL-WNBA and Rookie of the Year. During the past three WNBA off-seasons, Taurasi has traveled to Russia to play professionally for Spartak Moscow. Diana also has been honored with the "Air Taurasi" shoe, Nike's first signature women's shoe, released in fall 2005, named after Taurasi herself.
Taurasi is the founder of The Diana Taurasi Foundation where projects include the funding for the building of a playground in Bridgeport, CT with KaBoom! in the name of UCONN women's Alums. Taurasi has also worked with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury to be the first WNBA player to fund a Reading and Learning Room which provides extra resources and motivation to kids where most of the kids speak her first language, Spanish.
Diana currently plays on the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury team.
