Chauncey began his rise to the NBA on the courts of Denver's George Washington High School, where he was a four-time All-State first team pick, Colorado Mr. Basketball three times, and Colorado Player of the Year as a sophomore and as a junior. He was selected to the 1995 McDonald's All-American Team and attended The University of Colorado averaging 18.5 points per game in two seasons before leaving for the NBA in 1997.
Chauncey was selected as the third overall pick in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics. Chauncey was then traded to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Kenny Anderson midway through his first season. In addition to the Raptors, he has also played for the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic before finding a home in Detroit as the team's starting point guard.
Chauncey quickly earned respect from Pistons fans and colleagues for his tenacious defense and clutch shooting. In six years with Detroit, Chauncey lead the team to six straight conference championship series, two NBA finals, and won an NBA Championship while earning the NBA Finals MVP award. He was also an All-Star three times and made the All-NBA team twice and All-Defensive second team twice.
On November 3, 2008, Chauncey was traded to the Denver Nuggets. In his first year with the Nuggets, Chauncey led them back to the Conference Finals for the first time since 1985. This was Chauncey's 7th straight conference finals. Chauncey has been involved with numerous charities in his time with the NBA including The Children's Center in Detroit that has helped enrich the lives of Detroit area youth since 1929, and pledging money to the Porter/Billups Leadership Academy to help selected youngsters achieve educational goals.
