SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS
Be yourself. When filling out scholarship application forms, be complete, concise and creative. The judges want to know the real you.
Complete the application in full. Do not leave a question blank. If you're not sure a question applies, make a note on the application - just don't leave any questions blank.
Neatness counts. Proofread the entire application carefully for misspelled words or grammatical errors. Ask a friend, teacher or parent to proofread it as well.
Watch all deadlines. To help keep yourself on track, make your own deadline at least two weeks before the official deadline. Use the extra time to make sure everything is ready on time.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ON THE SAMMY AWARD APPLICATION PROCESS
What does the application process consist of?
Students are asked to fill out information on their academic achievements, athletic excellence, leadership roles, service activities as well as a short essay (75 to 250 words) describing how milk has been a part of their life.
If chosen as a semi-finalist, the student will be asked to supply a letter of recommendation from a coach and a counselor or principal from their school as well as an official transcript.
Who can nominate someone for a SAMMY Award?
Teachers, coaches, principals, guidance counselors, athletic directors, parents and relatives are encouraged to nominate a student athlete for the SAMMY 2009 Award. High school seniors are also allowed and encouraged to nominate themselves.
What is judging based on?
Judging is based on five criteria: academic performance (35%), athletic experience (35%), leadership (15%), community service (10%) and milk experience (5%).
Who judges the entries?
Preliminary judging will be conducted by a qualified group of educators and coaches who will select 75 finalists. A panel of celebrity athletes from the Milk Mustache campaign will then choose the 25 winners.
How many rounds of judging are there?
There are three rounds of judging, for more detailed information each round of judging please see the official rules.
When will winners be notified?
The finalists (winners) will be notified on or before May 21, 2009. The awards weekend will be held at Disney World June 27-29, 2008.
Are applications accepted through the mail?
We're sorry, but only online applications will be accepted.
When is the deadline for applications?
All applications must be received by 11:59 pm on March 10, 2009.
